I hate cooking. Well, not so much cooking, but the time it takes to prepare for a meal and to clean up from it. I don’t mind the cooking part itself. So what ends up happening? I normally make a lot of one meal on Sunday and then eat it for the first few days of the week. The the last couple days of the week I’ll just eat something easy like a can of soup with some rice.
I realized I need to come up with a way around this or just deal with it. Why? It often leads to less healthy choices or us going out to eat, neither of which are great.
So far I have thought of a few options. The first is a menu plan. We’ve done this before but we have just gotten lazy so I think it is time to re institute it. The second is frozen pre-prepared quick meals. I’ve always wanted to try this but never could find any recipes and don’t know what would freeze well and what wouldn’t.
As far as clean up goes, I should take any downtime while cooking to clean up whatever I’ve made dirty so far. Other than that, if I just finish cleaning up right after dinner the horrible feeling of impending dishes won’t be hanging over my head anymore… I think this might work…
What do you do for meals during the week? How often do you cook meals and do you hate doing dishes as much as I do?

The lady and I brainstorm about what we want to eat each week. Every Sunday we go grocery shopping. Half of the meals we prep on Sunday and leave only the grilling for after work. It has saved us a lot of money, time, and calories.

I really don’t mind dishes. I agree that cooking is time-consuming, but there are some quick meals. Cooking some frozen chicken breasts and steaming some veggies requires very little time and is super healthy. My wife likes to cook a lot more than me but I try to cook at least a couple of the meals a week.
As far as eating out, I don’t feel bad about the health factor because I try to work out 3-4 times a week which mostly offsets whatever I eat. Also when I eat out I try to use coupons or get something cheaper most of the time, though I will sometimes splurge on a nicer meal.
It’s all about the time, tho, I agree.

I’m actually starting to enjoy cooking more than I ever did before. It would be nice if my bf helped out every now and then though! Oh well, I will leave him to the trash duties

Sounds like he’s got it made! Especially if all he has to do is take out the trash!
There are great books out there for cooking for a whole month and freezing them. I’ve tried them before and it has worked out great. Here is a book I’ve used and loved: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0966446747/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1352560143&sr=8-5&pi=SL75
Thanks Marie, I’ll have to look into it!
I think I can count the number of times I’ve cooked in my life on my two hands. I don’t care for it because I never get it right. We’ve always somewhat planned out our meals in advance, but my wife (thankfully) moreso handles this department. Sometimes she cooks the meals in advance if we know it is going to be a hecktic week. I took a different approach to the situation and I have a “hit list” of quick pickup food places to hit that aren’t ultra unhealthly (in case the wife/kids are at sports practice and I’m on my own).

I’d rather clean than cook. I hate cooking, but just try to make basic meals out of necessity. I’m like you in that I make a meal on sunday and try to make it last as long as possible. I could not imagine cooking every night.

I’m not a big fan of cooking…or cleaning dishes after! Eating out is much more convenient and I would probably do it most nights out the week if it wasn’t for my financial goals (it’s cheaper to eat home!). I have to plan my meals ahead of time. I know I will probably cook 2-3 times a week and eat leftovers the other days. I cook things I know I’ll want. If I cook something I may not want at the end of the week (trying to be super healthy) there’s a big chance I will say “screw it” and go to my nearest diner!

I usually try to make something on the weekend that makes leftovers for a few days. Then on the other days we eat easy and cheap- salads, eggs and pancakes for dinner, spaghetti. I dont want to cook anything too complex after working all day…and our little kids will only eat a few things. I love making crock pot meals occasionally!
