Random Thoughts
Rain, rain go away come again… not anytime soon please. For the last 3 or 4 weeks it feels like it has rained every single day! It sometimes rains in the morning and sometimes rains in the afternoon. On other days it rains all day and some days it rains both in the morning and in the afternoon.
I live in Florida which his supposedly “The Sunshine State” (and it normally is) but lately it just doesn’t seem like it! I feel bad for all of the tourists coming to visit on vacation for a week. I’m sure they get to sneak in some beach time though because it rarely rains all day non stop.
The good part is I’ve been able to turn the sprinkler system off for a bit to give my water bill a rest from the recently planted sod in my backyard. I’m also really glad we got the leak fixed in our sliding glass door to the backyard and it is still holding up! If we didn’t I’m sure I would have woken up to a wet sun room many times in the last few weeks.
Speaking of leaks… my office is in a really old building and every time it rains a few of my coworkers go running for papers towels. The windows are original to the building because they are the glass blocks that you’d likely see in a bathroom but it is clear and see through. Unfortunately the mortar between the blocks cracked and the windows leak like crazy. I think we spend more in paper towels than it would cost to fix the windows!
Anyway, that is what has been on my mind this week. Can I have a sunny week next week please?
Round Up
Average Joe’s Money Blog at The Free Financial Advisor (that’s a mouthful) writes Don’t Be the Emperor With No Emergency Fund. It is quite a funny analogy but so true in my opinion. I’ll always try to keep some money in cash for true emergencies and Average Joe tells us why he thinks you should too.
The Financial Blogger write The Cure for “I Don’t Have Any Time”. Unless you are a time ninja there is almost always some extra time you can find by looking at some of the tips included here. I know I waste a lot of time but I am at least aware of it.
Money Beagle writes Sharing Something I Love with My Son. When Money Beagle was young he loved watching his parents’ house get built. Now there is a home being built in his neighborhood and he is sharing the experience with his son. Very cool read.
Bog of Debt writes Scrooge McDuke and Money Lessons. Um… YES PLEASE! I watched this show when I was growing up and it was cool to see a post about it. If you watched it too go check it out.
Finally, Daily Money Shot wrote The Oregon Trail Guide to Personal Finance! Another part of my youth brought up in the blogosphere this week! This is actually a multi-part series and I’ve linked to the main page so make sure to check all of the parts out! I remember finishing my work as fast as I could in elementary school so I could dart to the computer and sneak a quick game of The Oregon Trail in.
Carnivals
Below are all of the carnivals that I was put in this week that I could find or got ping backs on. If you hosted a carnival that I was included in this week and I missed it please let me know and I’ll add it below!
Carnival of Money Pros and Lifestyle Carnival included my post It Pays to Ask for More: Coke Zero Commercial “And…?”.
Carnival of Wealth included my post Should I Get a Smartphone Update.
The Carnival of Personal Finance included my post What Would You Do?: I Won One Million Dollars!!!
Enjoy your weekend!
What’ve you been up to lately? Anything noteworthy to share?

Sorry that we sent the northwest weather down your way Lance. That sounds like the first half of our summer. Nobody up here would have many problems with leaks though. With the amount of rain that we get, fixing any leaks right away is a major priority.

Thanks Jeremy
I am having triple digit heat and you are getting rain! We could use some rain, but it doesn’t rain this time of year in southern California. At least, our home is sealed tight against the heat! Like everything, this too passes to something else.

I have no clue why but I never put you living in southern California… learn something new every day!
Sucks to hear about your office. Nothing is worse than having to deal with crappy work conditions. They should just fix the windows already!

I’m just happy we have windows!
Rain can put a damp on the day! At least, it is only temporary. And it sounds like your office might need a slight renovation

Haha yah slight rennovation. It isn’t high on the list though and isn’t a huge deal anyway
I’d rather have a not so nice office with an awesome job and coworkers.
Hi Lance,
I found you through your comment on Problogger.
Nice blog and as for the weather, we are experiencing quite a bit of heat in Central Vietnam these days. I actually invite cloudy days and rain!
Have a great day
Ryan
Wow a reader from Vietnam! Very cool. Glad you found me and I hope you stick around and enjoy the blog!
Thanks for the mention! We could use some rain so why don’t you send it on our this way? And ugh, I hope they fix your office soon!

I’ll try to send it your way. Luckily it isn’t my particular office that leaks, just the office in general.
Hey, the day I skip town you write about me! Thanks for the link. It’s funny. I’ll bet the owners are putting it off because of the expense, but once they commit to fixing the windows they’ll ask themselves “why didn’t we do that earlier?”

The company owns the building but it has nothing to do with the business I am in. It is just the admin office so I don’t think it is that big of a deal.
I live in Florida too and the rain is crazy this time of year. Needless to say the grass is growing out of control! And we have a minor roof leak too! Gotta get that taken care of soon.
