Random Thoughts, Round Up and Carnivals #20

Random Thoughts

While most other financial bloggers are off at FinCon12 I am not. Therefore you should all read and comment on every post on my site and I’ll have time to respond to you all. Kidding aside, I really wish I could have been there but due to the timing and FinCon12 being at the beginning of the month I couldn’t get the time off from work. Hopefully FinCon13 is mid to late month so I can go. Enough of my complaining of not being in Denver. I must remind myself there are some beautiful Gulf Coast beaches just a few blocks away.

Round Up

The College investor investigated How Five Top Bloggers Made the Jump to Self Employment. I love reading success stories and anyone who makes a jump to self employment and stays that way normally has a pretty good one. These are some big names in the blogosphere and it was very interesting to read through the mini interviews! Work Save Live informs us of a sad story in Tragedy Strikes Close to Home: Why You Need Life Insurance. This was so sad to hear and I feel like everyone should read this. At the end of the post you can donate if you feel compelled to do so. I wrote why I don’t need life insurance right now but if I was in the position of the family in Jason’s post I would have bought some life insurance as soon as I found out we were having a kid. Mr Money Mustache asks Does Peak Happiness Really Come at $75,000 a year? For some it does and for others it doesn’t. Honestly for me I could probably be happier at less but wouldn’t complain at having even more wiggle room to save even more! See Debt Run wrote about The Costs of Pet Ownership and bought their kids a Hermit Crab. I personally know that pets are expensive from our dog Daphne. On top of the costs in my last post she has had her allergies act up even more which has cost us a couple vet visits. It looks like we might even have to get allergy testing… yikes! Finally iHeartBudgets wrote It’s Time To Cut the Cable and Home Phone. If you think you’d benefit I totally think you should cancel. While this might be a good alternative for some people I’ve stated on my blog that I won’t be cancelling my cable anytime soon.  Instead, here are some tips on how to save money on your cable bill if you, like me, don’t want to give it up. I even saved my parents $600 in one year on their cable bill! Keep in mind I am in a financial position where I can afford cable so it is an entertainment expenditure for me.

Carnivals

Below are all of the carnivals that I was put in this week that I could find or got ping backs on. If you hosted a carnival that I was included in this week and I missed it please let me know and I’ll add it below! I didn’t get in any carnivals this week… probably due to my Disney World trip a couple weekends ago. Hopefully there are some links to carnivals here next weekend :) Enjoy your weekend! So are there any good original movies I should be checking out? What have you seen lately?

I’m in the same boat! There is no way I could have gotten off WD3 for FinCon12. Would love it if was mid-month, but then again people can’t always schedule things around accounting month-end close – tho they should :P

  6. I bet it was an amazing experience, especially for the 1st-time attendees. I’m looking forward to next year and I’m hoping there will be no issues with me being able to schedule it. I wonder where it will be next year…
