Random Thoughts, Round Up and Carnivals #24

Street Festivals Random Thoughts

Tonight was a street festival of sorts downtown called Friday Fest. The first Friday of every month a bunch of vendors come and set up shop down the main downtown corridor. All sorts of fancy, and a couple really crappy, cars line the streets between trinket booths and food shops along with random bands playing up and down the street. A lot of downtown businesses stay open and there is always a good turn out.

I never buy anything. We just walk up and down the street and people watch. It is a nice way to get out of the house for free! My mom loves to pet all of the dogs that people bring.

The most interesting part this week was watching the politicians and random political groups. Every one would try to get you to wear a sticker or listen to what they had to say. Even the Green Party was there. I actually saw our Congressman there (and his challenger) which surprised me but I thought it was pretty cool. After all, they are supposed to be accessible to their constituents… right?

Do you have any festivals like this in your town? Do you go?

Round Up

See Debt Run wrote Dear Diary, There’s Been a Change of Plans… I’m glad everyone was OK but it stinks about the setback in the debt payoff… if that doesn’t make you read the article I don’t know what will.

Barb Friedberg asks Should I Invest in Dividend Stocks Right Now? Another look at dividend stocks from someone besides me.

20′s Finances writes about The Actual Cost of an iPhone 5… it’s more than you think. Think thousands…

Free Money Finances hosted my guest post about Why “Six Reasons You’ll Never Retire” is Wrong. Can’t blame me for plugging my own article here. A guy at MSN wrote a piece on 6 reasons you’ll never retire and I disagree! Check it out!

So Over This wrote about Freelancing and Work-life Balance – Can They Coexist? I can definitely see this being a difficult balancing act.

Carnivals

Below are all of the carnivals that I was included in this week… well, at least those that I could find or I got ping backs on. If you hosted a carnival that I was included in this week and I missed it please let me know and I’ll add it below!

Carnival of Retirement, Financial Carnival for Young Adults, Carnival of Money Pros and Lifestyle Carnival included my post 5 Reasons We Won’t Separate Our Finances When Married.

Carnival of Personal Finance included my post How I Bought a House on a Whim and Why You Shouldn’t.

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Sounds like fun! There are TONS of these festivals during the summer months here in Minnesota. I haven’t been to any in a while (too much else going on) but I always make it to the State Fair which is the biggest one in the nation on an attendance/day comparison.

Hope you have a good rest of your weekend.

  2. I was just talking to someone today about how there are so many festivals here. A lot of them sound really fun, but there’s almost just too much going on #bigcityproblems haha

My favorite groups are the crazy religious people. Bystanders will get so fired up and start arguing with these whackos it’s fun to watch.
