Today I’m stoked because I’ve just been approved for my next sign up bonus credit card. We’re going to apply for the Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard to earn $462 worth of free travel after we spend just $1,000 within 90 days of opening our credit card with Barlcaycard.
The most exciting part is we’re going to use this card to go on our next Carnival cruise for free! I bet you’re wondering how you can get in on this sweet deal, how it works and how you can redeem your Barclaycard miles for maximum value. Here’s how we’re going to make it work for us.
Note: You can apply for the card directly through the widget at the bottom of this post!
The Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard Sign Up Bonus
The majority of the free money comes from the initial sign up bonus. To earn the sign up bonus you must spend $1,000 on your new credit card within 90 days of account opening. Once you do that, you’ll earn the 40,000 mile sign up bonus which you can redeem for $400 in travel reimbursement.
2x Miles On All Purchases
While you’re spending that first $1,000 to get your sign up bonus miles, you’ll be earning even more miles! You earn 2 miles on every dollar of purchases you make. That’ll add another 2,000 miles for a total of 42,000 miles in rewards so far. We’re still 4,200 miles short though based on my claim of $462 of free travel though. What gives? This card has another bonus built in!
10% Miles Bonus On Miles Redeemed For Travel
Whenever you redeem your miles for travel, you earn an additional 10% in miles based on the amount of miles you redeem. So, if you redeem 40,000 miles you’ll get 4,000 miles credited to your account. Technically, you can only redeem your miles in 2,500 increments so you won’t be able to redeem your 42,000 miles completely unless you earn another 500 miles by spending $250 dollars.
When you reach 42,500 miles you can redeem them all for $425 in travel credit and get 4,250 bonus miles. Simply earn another 750 miles from spending $375 on the card and you can redeem another 5,000 miles worth $50!
Earn Double The Sign Up Bonus
Unfortunately $475 isn’t enough money to take a cruise for 2 for free so I bet you’re wondering what I was talking about at the beginning of the post. There is a simple solution to this problem. Rather than just one of us signing up for the Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard, both myself and Tori will open separate credit cards to earn double the bonus!
It will require double the spending, but we’ll make sure to plan it out in advance to make sure we can reach the required minimum spending requirements to receive 80,000 miles for free!
How To Maximize The Value Of Your Barclaycard Miles
In order to maximize the value of your Barclaycard Miles, you’ll need to redeem them for a statement credit on any travel spending you’ve charged to your card in the last 90 days. This will give you the maximum value of $0.01 per point.
There are other redemption options, but most of them only value your points at half of the value at $0.005 per mile. It is important that you redeem your miles for a statement credit on travel spending to get the maximum value.
What Counts As Travel?
Barclaycard is pretty liberal with the types of charges that they will consider as travel charges. According to their website, the following is classified as travel:
- Travel Agencies & Tour Operators
- Motels & Resorts
- Cruise Lines
- Passenger Railways and
- Car Rental Agencies
It is important to note though, they make these decisions based on the merchant code that is pre-programmed by the business you are buying from. If the business is mis-classified and the merchant code is not considered travel, you won’t be able to redeem your rewards at the higher rate for purchases made at that merchant.
Beware of The Annual Fee (Waived For The First Year)
Buyer beware! There is an $89 annual that is waived for the first year. If you continue to receive value for the card you can pay the fee and continue earning 2x miles on all purchases. However, if you don’t think you’ll earn enough value, you can always cancel the card prior to your anniversary to avoid the annual fee.
